Fetus-protection bill
Friday April 2, 2004 will always be remembered as a glorious day for everyone who cares about children all over this great country. I was very excited when this bill was proposed. There have just been too much harm done to babies in the womb. According to this AP report the bill became law after the president signed it today. The article reads:
"If the crime is murder and the unborn child's life ends, justice demands a full accounting under the law," Bush said Thursday before signing the measure. "The suffering of two victims can never equal only one offense."
Bush was joined on an East Room stage by Peterson's mother, Sharon Rocha, and her stepfather, Ron Grantski. Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared in December 2002 in the highly publicized case. Supporters of the bill have cited her and the son who was to have been named Connor.
"This little soul never saw light, but he is loved and he is remembered," the president said. "All who knew Laci Peterson have mourned two deaths and the law cannot look away and pretend there was just one."
Opponents of this bill say it might hinder a woman’s right to have an abortion. Sorry I disagree with that. Although I personally think that abortion is wrong, this law has nothing to do with abortion. It simply makes it a very serious crime if someone was to harm a baby in the womb. Why would anyone be opposed to this bill? I cannot understand how any woman who has had a baby kick in her womb would be opposed to this bill.
I will not say I was surprised, but I was very disappointed to learn that Senator Hilary Clinton, Senator Dianne Feinstein and some democrats did not vote for this bill, Senator Kerry even left the campaign trail to rush and vote against this bill! How sad!. These are people who claim to be in the fore front in the fight for women’s’ right. They are so bent on ‘saving’ the abortion industry that they could care less if a mad person murdered the baby in a woman’s womb.
As far as I am concerned, they do not care about a woman’s right to choose. In this case if the woman chooses to have her baby and someone else’s decided to kill the baby, they could care less. They only care about a giving a woman the right to kill the baby, not protect the baby.
