Black Leadership
I haven't blogged for some time since I have two other sites where I blog. I ran into this
article and I just could not help but give my two cents on the issue.
Every time I get into some discussion with my liberal friends about"black leaders", I have always been of the opinion that as blacks, we do not need "leaders" to speak for us, we can do that our selves (thank you) and even if we needed some one to represent us, people like Condi and Gen Powell would beat down Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton any day any time. of course they always disagree. However, I feel this article has vindicated me.
Although Jesse Jackson was seen as the "most important black leader" (which I do not agree with), it is suprising to me that Obama beat Al Sharpton on this one. (Honestly, I am not suprised at all, I think blacks are fed up with the likes of Al Sharpton.) Mark my word, Jesse will soon fall to the bottom of the list.
When blacks were asked to come up with the person they considered "the most important black leader," 15 percent chose Jackson, a civil rights activist who ran for president in the 1980s, while 11 percent picked Secretary of State Rice, 8 percent chose former Secretary of State Powell, and 6 percent named Obama, a freshman Democratic senator from Illinois. I wonder what percentage any of the NAACP leaders got in this poll?hmmmm.
The Sanctity of Human Life
I have always believed in the sanctity of human life because the Bible tells us that every life belongs to God and every life is precious in God's sight. I also believe in modern medicine. I believe that God gave us doctors and modern day technology to help us. I believe that when a person is sick and needs treatment, everything should be done to make sure that they get the best possible treatment, regardless of who they are.
However, I do not believe that we have to destroy an innocent life to save a life. That simply does not make any sense. Due to this reason, I have never been a supporter of embryonic stem cell research nor human cloning. Supporters of these procedures always refer to the "researches" that have been done in this area that supports the fact that these procedure holds the key to a future where there will be no more sickness. What really bothers me about this whole embryonic stem cell issue is the fact that we as a race have loved life so much that we are prepared to kill an innocent human being to save ourselves. We are no longer killing in self defense, we are now willing to kill the innocent for the hope of a better life.
Not too long ago, it was revealed that most of the research papers that claimed to support the advantages of embryonic stem cell research was fabricated by the scientist who wrote the articles. You can read about the news
here . The fact that the researched turned out to be fake is not what is really bothering me, what is really giving me cause for concern is the fact that society does not see anything wrong in killing an innocent human being just for the promise of a better life for another person.
The Bible teaches us that the strong should bear the burdens of the weak and not seek to please themselves (Rom.15:1). We are people created in the image and likeness of God. We are not animals in the wild where survival of the fittest is the name of the game. We are to look out for one another, not destroy each other for selfish reasons.
Precious in the Sight of the Lord..."
My oldest brother, my father's first son, the Patriach of my family, the one who was not only my brother, but also became my father after my dad passed away, lost his battle with cancer this morning and went home to be the with the Lord.
My consolation in all these, he was a born again Christian, so I am thankful for that and I know I will see him again.
James Dobson in his book "
When God doesn't make sense" says that God is sovereign over all. He goes on to say
".....We must never forget that He, after all is God. He is majestic and holy and sovereign. He is accountable to no one. He is not an errand boy who chases the assignments we dole out. He is not a genie who pops out of the bottle to satisfy our whims. He is not our servant - we are His. And our reason for existence is to glorify and Honor Him. Even so, sometimes He chooses to explain His action in our lives." (sometimes he chooses not to) "Sometimes His presence is as real as if we had encountered Him face to face. But at other times when nothing makes sense- when what we are going through is "not fair", when we feel all alone in God's waiting room - He simply says, "Trust Me"How True!
David tell us in Psalm 116:15 "
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his saints"Adieu brother John, till we meet again.

What is Salvation?
Salvation means to be saved from our sins by the Lord Jesus Christ. How do we become saved? The Bible tells us how we become saved. A person gets saved when he/she hears the word of God and gets convicted by the word. In other words, they experience "Godly sorrow" through that word, this "Godly sorrow" then leads to repentance.
2 Corinthians 7:10 "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation...."You may ask, what then is repentance? Repentance is turning away from something and turning towards the opposite of that thing. Jesus himself preached repentance.
Matt.3:2 "And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." John the Baptist preached repentance, Peter also preached repentance
Acts 2:38 (King James Version) "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."In light of this, in order for us to be saved, we must repent from our sins and turn towards God. God is Holy and Holiness is the opposite of sin. When we repent and turn towards God does that mean we then become perfect and do not sin anymore? No. It only means that we acknowledged our sins, confessed them and are determined to forsake them and are willing to turn towards God so He can help us live free of our past life. Turning towards God means that we will now be sanctified, separated unto God. God gives us the grace for our sanctification, but we must join together by co-operating with Him through the power of that grace.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 (New King James Version) "For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness." We have a part to play in our sanctification. I know a lot of Christians think God’s grace means that we no longer have a part to play in our salvation, that we no longer have to do anything at all. This is however not what the scripture teaches us.
Repentance
always comes before salvation. It is
never the other way around. A person who has not come to the place of repentance cannot claim to be saved.
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 (New King James Version) " Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."God bless you. Amen
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
I took the kids to see the C.S Lewis classic, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – one of the Narnia Chronicles. It was really great. This is indeed one of the best stage shows if not the best I have taken the kids to. My seven year old absolutely loved it. He truly, truly enjoyed himself. The salvation message as well as our Christian walk with the Lord was presented in such a way that it was both intriguing and funny without loosing the message.
There were a lot of life lessons to be learnt from the story as well. Not only was it a great outing, but it was a great learning time for my son. As a home schooler, this was our lesson for the day. We talked about the story and it’s application to life.
We learnt from the story to always have the sword of the spirit with us (The Word) as well as our shield of faith with which we quench every fiery dart of the enemy. We also learnt that we are in a spiritual warfare and as long we play according the rules (The Bible) we will always triumph. It will not be easy, but if we hold fast to the end, there is a crown of righteousness waiting for us in Heaven. The part where Aslan the Lion sacrifices his life to save Edmund really drives home the message about the sacrifice that Jesus Christ paid for our sins. This is one message I know will stay with my son for a long time!
More Than Enough
There is a song by The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir titled "More Than Enough". I love that song a lot and I was glad I was in my church choir when we sang the song a couple of Sundays ago. Here are the words of the song
Jehovah Jireh, my provider,
You are more than enough for me
Jehovah Raphah, You're my healer,
by Your stripes I've been set free
Jehovah Shamah, You are with me,
You supply all my needs
You're more than enough,
more than enough,
more than enough for me
The Bible tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and every thing else shall be added unto us. We are taught through scriptures to place all our hope in God, to trust Him at all times, to rely on Him and Him alone. I gave my life to the Lord Jesus Christ in May of 1990, so I have been saved for some time and by the grace of Almighty God, have been walking in His ways and so naturally, I thought I had this "trusting God" thing all settled until recently.
I got a book from the Library titled "The Attributes of God - Volume One – A Journey into the Father's Heart" by A.W. Tozer, this is a must read for every Christian, I tell you. Here is quote from the book
"What is it that makes you happy? What cheers you up and gives your morale a lift? Is it your job? Is it the fact that you have good clothes? Is it that you've married well or have a fine position? Just what is it that brings you joy?" He goes on to explain in the book that God is the only one that brings us joy. If we put our trust in things, they will never satisfy us because all of the things we trust are beneath God. Which is why we should always put God before all things because no matter what a person has, if they do not have Christ in their life, there will still be a longing in their soul, that is because God wants to be first and all to us. God must be our all in all. According to Tozer
"Money won't do it. If you take the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, God will add money to you - as much as you need. If you take the kingdom of God and His righteousness, God may send your way learning and art and music and other legitimate earthly loves. God may send it all to you and let you have it. But it is always with the understanding that He can take it away again and you won't grumble. You still have God, and God is all" **emphasis mine.
Wow! We Christians have been taught to trust God for this and trust God for that, which is okay, there is nothing wrong with that, But if God is more than enough for us as we claim, if he is our everything as we profess, then we should also understand that if He chooses to take from us that which we had given us, it is okay, because He is more than enough for us.
Hand Selected by God
I was listening to Moody radio this afternoon as I was serving the kids lunch and Dennis Rainey of Family Life Today was on and he said something very interesting. He said "Do you know you have been hand selected by God to introduce each one of your children to him?"
Now, this is very interesting because not only are we chosen by God to raise our kids, we were "hand selected" to introduce them to God Almighty! It sure gives parenting a whole new meaning when you look at it that way. I will go a step further and say, not only where you hand selected by God to introduce each one of your children to Him, you were also hand selected to disciple them. This is one of the reasons I decided to educate my kids at home. So I can disciple them more effectively.
As we carry out this God given job of introducing our kids to God and discipling(making disciples of) them, let us remember that more is caught than taught. They will learn more from what they see us do and how we react to situations than what we tell them. In the daily devotional
"Our Daily Bread" for Tuesday, September 12, 2005 here is how the writer talks about discipleship:
In the first century, a Jewish man who wanted to become a disciple of a rabbi (teacher) was expected to leave family and job to join his rabbi. They would live together 24 hours a day—walking from place to place, teaching and learning, studying and working. They discussed and memorized the Scriptures and applied them to life.
The disciple's calling, as described in early Jewish writings about basic ethics, was to "cover himself in the dust of [the rabbi's] feet," drinking in his every word. He followed his rabbi so closely that he would "walk in his dust." In doing so, he became like the rabbi, his master. Our calling is to disciple our kids by example. We are to do this by living together 24 hours a day—walking from place to place, teaching, learning, studying, working together as well as discussing and memorizing the Scriptures and applying them to life.
You go girl!
Star Parker is one of my favorite African American writer and columnist. She has written another beautiful piece that took the words out of my mouth after I heard the President's speech from New Orleans, the other day. You can read the rest of it
hereHere is an excerpt:
....It makes me wonder what Condoleezza Rice must be thinking when she hears the president relate black poverty in the South to discrimination. Our secretary of state, of course, emerged from a neighborhood in the Deep South not distant from where the president spoke Thursday night. Is she the black exception to the rule? Is she, as many black liberals would assert, a turncoat, making it on affirmative action and then turning her back on it?
Politicians who truly care about the black condition in America today need to start reaching for their intestinal fortitude and being honest.
How can racial discrimination be the operative holding blacks down in a city in which at least seven out of 10 residents are black?
New Orleans' convention center, where black residents sat for days in squalor waiting for help (after being directed there by Mayor Ray Nagin) is called the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Ernest Morial was the first black mayor of New Orleans. His son, Marc Morial, also a black former mayor of New Orleans, is now president of the National Urban League.
The chief of police in New Orleans is black, as is the head of the city council. The mayor is black, as is the man who has represented New Orleans in the U.S. House for the last 16 years.
Black presence and power in New Orleans are wide and deep.
The truth about black poverty today, as Kay Hymowitz of the Manhattan Institute has aptly put it, is that it is "intricately intertwined with the collapse of the nuclear family in the inner city."
Consider that black households that are headed by married couples have median incomes almost 90 percent that of white households headed by married couples.
The problem in the black community is that far too few black households are headed by married couples.
Don't you get the message?
I have said this before a few days ago, If you cannot put your child in a private Christian school, them you are better off homeschooling. Our public schools have become a place where kids are taught and sometimes forced to denounce morality, Godliness and absolutes while embracing relativism and outright immorality.
This from
wnd"Principal Summa abruptly interrupted certain fourth-grade students while they were in the midst of a Bible discussion during recess, demanded that they stop their activity at once, put their Bibles away and from that point forward, cease from bringing their Bibles to school." Unbelievable! In my opinion, the book that makes the most compelling case for homeschooling is a book by R.C Sproul jr, namely "When you rise up...A covenanted approach to Homeschooling". In this book, R.C sproul JR says
"When you send them off for seven hours a day to a place where Jesus cannot be acknowledged, they will learn more from that than they will from their Sunday School lesson. They will learn that Jesus is for Sundays."How true! In my opinion, the public school system is sending a message to parents:
You better educate your kids with your values, or we will educate them with ours. We hear you loud and clear
Choose You This Day Whom You Will Serve..

Homosexual protesters picketed in front of a Boston church yesterday just as the morning service was ending, saying they were targeting the congregation because it is hosting a conference about leaving the "gay" lifestyle. This might be coming to your church or who knows, maybe your home?
A lot of modern day Christians do not expect to be persecuted for their faith infact when we hear the word persecution mentioned, most of us Christians today think of countries like Saudi Arabia, China and other places where it is very difficult to openly preach the gospel. However, Christians are being persecuted even here in the US everyday.
We are called names by those in the main stream media because we refuse to accept any thing that is contrary to the word of God. We are told that we should be tolerant and loving since God is love. They forget that the loving God hates sin and has also prepared a place of eternal damnation to those who reject His son.
One of the areas where this persecution is most evident is the acceptance of the gay lifestyle. It is evident in the word of God when He created Adam and Eve (not Adam and Steve) that as one of my favorite preachers - Ravi Zacharias puts it
"....He(God) chose to craft a relationship designed so specifically that only a woman could complete the imcompleteness of man".I don't mean to scare anyone, but the days of open persecution against Christians are here. If you are one those who depsperately craves attention and approval from people, then you might be in trouble unless you are determined to please God and not man.
One of the reasons for the spread of the gospel in the early church was because of their persecution.
"Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word" Acts8:4
No matter what the world says, we should stand firm on the Word of God. We should always be ready to give an answer for the hope that lies within us with gentleness and respect. Tolerance does not mean acceptance. We should love sinners, the Bible tells us to love sinners, but we are not sanction sin. We are to tell the people the truth in love.
"Yea, and all that will live godly in christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" 2nd. Tim3:12
While Men Slept
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. Matt.13:24-25Recently, a bill that was geared to protect kids by tightening the laws against sexual offenders passed the house. However, pro-family groups are crying fowl over the language in the bill. Why? Because the language would
—in an attempt to codify specify rights for homosexuals—punish a criminal for perceived motivation.
The amendment, brought by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., was tacked onto the important and needed Children's Safety Act.
The language stipulates that crimes "motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability of the victim" shall be punished by up to life in prison. It also authorizes $10 million to prosecute such crimes.
Thirty Republicans joined 192 Democrats in passing the amendment.
Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Family Institute, said gay activists and their supporters in Congress took advantage of the national distraction of Hurricane Katrina and the Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
"This was a total surprise—a sneak attack," he said. "We got 40 minutes notice that the vote was going to take place, which is hardly time to do anything that matters. And minutes after they passed that amendment, they passed the whole Children's Safety Act.Although I was sad and troubled when I found this out, I am glad it was caught before it got to the senate. Those of you who are concerned over this issue should call your state Senator and ask them to oppose so-called hate crime legislation. You can do some from
Focus on the Family's website. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the "Take Action" center.
I have never really been a big fan of hate crime laws because I believe every crime is a hate crime and there are enough laws in the books already to punish all crimes.
For example murder is a capital offense and is punishable to the full extent of the law in the state in which it happens. If a murder occurs in a state with the death penalty and the murderer is convicted of the crime of first degree murder, he will be sentenced to death. In a case like, I do not understand what purpose a hate crime law would serve here. Can the murderer be put to death twice? One for the law that governs first degree murder and the other for the law that governs hate crimes? Well the answer is obvious.
The Bible warns us to be always on the look out. .....be sober, be vigilant.....
"Expert" Education
People who think that "the experts" should be responsible for educating their children, ought to read
this here is a short quote form the article:
Many of you are aware that atheist Michael Newdow has secured what is, at least a temporary victory, when a federal judge again ruled the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional. My third-grade picture, Mr. Doofus, sat down to have a talk with Mr. Newdow, still glowing from…well whatever an atheist attributes glowing to.In my opinion, it is pointless trying to wage a war to recite a pledge in any government school, when the schools themselves teach that sexual perversion is normal and that heather's two mommies is the same as a mommy and daddy? This is one more reason why we are glad we are home educating our children.
A Slap In The Face
One of the beauties of the democratic system is that we are able to elect representatives to different offices so they can speak for us and represent our interests. This is one of the main reasons why people overwhelmingly prefer the democtratic system to any other system of government.
Since man is a fallen being and prone to mistakes and sometimes out right evil, the democratic system in my view is the best system to help curb and curtail the inherent evil that resides in every human being. The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?Recently, I
read in the news that the Carlifornia legislature had voted to legalize same sex marriage, I thought to myself, "they can't do this, this will be overriding the will of the people who put them in power, this is un-democratic and certainly a slap in the face of the people who put these people in office." But they did. It was not a suprise to me to find out that all the democrats in the Carlifornia Senate voted for the bill, while all the repuiblicans in the Senate voted against the bill. I have stopped trying to uderstand why the democratic party has decided to take such a hard stand against traditional families.
I do believe what the Bible says that God is the one who sets up leaders and puts down leaders. Wether we agree with our leaders or not, I believe everyone that is in any position of authority was put there by God. (Rom.13:1-3). Based on this, I belive that God has placed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in this position for such a time as this. He has said he would veto the bill so it does not become law.
Here is how
foxnews.com puts it:
Schwarzenegger said the legislation, given final approval Tuesday by lawmakers, would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago. Proposition 22 (search) was placed on the ballot to prevent California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.
"We cannot have a system where the people vote and the Legislature derails that vote," the governor's press secretary, Margita Thompson, said in a statement. "Out of respect for the will of the people, the governor will veto (the bill)."
Proposition 22 stated that "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." The bill to be vetoed by Schwarzenegger would have defined marriage as a civil contract between "two persons."Unbelievable! The next thing you know, "two persons" may now become a man and an animal. Someime ago, I heard a lady call her pet her "animal companion". You think this is over the top? I don't think so. A legistalture that can attempt to over ride the vote of its constituents, is capable of anything.
Please continue to pray as this I know that this fight is not over yet. The enemy will still continue to fight the righteous on this issue. That is because the devil knows that the destruction of the family will eventuially lead to the destruction of the community. The devil has been fighting the family unit in the country for a long time and sadly a lot of Christian did not think there was any threat. When the devil was given a foothold by the rise of sex outside marriage which then led to a lot of fatherless homes, he now wants to completely destroy the family by changing the definition of the family.
Terror in London
As we have all heard, terrorists placed bombs in the London subway that killed almost 40 people and injured many. The terrorist are the biggest cowards of all, not only do they hide behind women and children to carry out their attacks, they are also not bold enough to do it openly.
They try to intimidate with fear. Fear is their strongest weapon. It is what they have used to oppress their women and children for ages and it is the tool they hope to use in wearing down the western world too. My advice to world leaders and all who desire to see the end of terrorism is stand firm and rebuke this enemy by saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Do not give in to their demands, be firm and resolute. Such callous cowards are not to be appeased by any means, it only strengthens and emboldens them.
Do not let fear of dying or fear of being attacked drive you to attempt to appease the enemy. This enemy can never be appeased. They want it their way or no way else.
The Bible tells us in 2nd Tim. 1:7
For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind"Fear is of the devil. In dealing with the terrorist, let us not operate out of fear, but out of the spirit of power, love and a sound mind.
There are those who argue that this would neve have happened if we had not gone into Iraq. My question to those people is, what caused the terrorist attacks on :
1 The Navy ship USS Cole on 10/12/00
2. The American embassy in Kenya in 1988
3. The First World Trade Center Bombings in Feb. 19993
4. The World Trade Center Bo,bing on 9/11/01
?
The truth of the matter is terrorist attacks have been going on for a long time and that is because the enemy is trying to get his way through fear. We must not let them.
For those who have lost loved ones in this attack, I pray that God will send His Holy Spirit, the Comforter to bring you comfort in every area where you hurt, comfor that only He can give in Jesus Name. Amen.
The Cross
I have not blogged for a very long time. The reason is simple. I have been doing some soul searching and praying, asking the Lord what He would have me blog about.
A couple of months ago, I started a Bible study with two friends and have been so blessed by it that I decided to blog about some of the issues we have been discussing. I will still blog about politics from time to time, I can't help but talk about politics, it is part of my DNA, however, most of what I will concentrate on will be discussions from my Bible study.
One of the issues we have been talking is what the Cross of Jesus Christ means to us as believers. The key to a victorius Christian life lies in understanding the purpose of the cross. We will never be able to reach our full potential in the Lord until we understand the cross.
We all have our conversion testimonies. Most of us came to the Lord as a result of one problem or the other. In other words, some of us were driven to the Lord because we had needs that we felt we needed supernatural intervention. It could be things like a marriage on the rocks, rebellios children, finanacial problems, etc. There is nothing wrong with that, however what we discover is that a lot of us have remained in the same place where we found the Lord, we have not gone beyond the door into the main house.
In some cases, once the need that drove us to Christ is met, we come up with a different list of requests. There is nothing wrong in bringing our requests to the Lord, the Lord Himself commands us to that, however if the our relationship with God is based pure on our constantly asking for things and expecting Him to do all we ask of Him, then we will never fully understand the purpose of the cross and if we do not understand the purpose of the cross, we will not be able to reach our full potential as Christians.
The Bible tells us that God created us for His glory. This means that He created us to have fellowship with Him, then He saved us so we could come into a deeper relationship with. He saved us so we should no longer live unto ourselves
(which only leads to eternal seperation from Him) but we should live for Him
(this guarantees us eternal life with Him). What does the cross of Jesus Christ mean to you? What does Salvation mean to you? Does it mean just having God answer "yes" to all your prayer requests? What do the words "personal relationship with Jesus" mean to you?
Take a look in scripture at the lives of the great men and women of God. What set them apart as great men and women of God? Was it the fact that they always had their needs met? In reading the Bible, why do you think the apostle Paul was a great man of God, why do you think Daniel was a great man of God? I want you to ponder these words in your heart. I will give my personal answer to these words as the days go by. But I adjure you to search your heart and see where you are in relationship with the cross of Christ.
God bless You.
Glad to Be Back
I have not blogged for so long now and boy, have I missed it. Yes I took time off last year to go on a house hunt. We have since bought the house and moved in and it seems like packing and moving took forever.
I never knew packing and moving could be this much stress. Phew!
Since I have been gone, so many things have happend, the Terry Schiavo case which just broke my heart and the death of the pope which made most of us sad.
I will return to full time blogging next week, till then, see you all.
Thanks for al the email while I was away. Some were not really nice, but hey, that's life.
Ciao
Time Off
I have taken some time off my blog, it was not intentional, I have had some serious computer problems as well as personal issues that I have been taking care of. Now that my computer has been fixed, I will be blogging from time to time. I may not be able to blog everyday since I am not quite done with my personal issues yet.
I have been on top of the issues around us though. Since I last blogged, a lot has happened, for example Arafat has passed away (one less terrorist to worry about). Scott Peterson was convivted in the murder of his wife and unborn son. (I hope the jury is right) if they are, then he needs to be sentenced to death.
James Caville a senior democrat says due to the outcome of this election, the democratic party needs to be "Born Again" (you think?)
I will be here again soon. Until then remain in His grace.
A New Day
The elections are finally over and my candidates won. Yes I had two candidates in the race: George W Bush and John Thune of South Dakota. In case you are wondering who Thune is, he is the guy who just defeated Democratic Minority Leader, Tom Daschale. This was the second most importatnt race in the country.
Tom Daschale is the head of the democrats in the Senate and since the President took office, Tom Daschle has made the obstruction of President's Bush's judicual nominees his number priority.
Anyone remember Miguel Estrada, the true American success story who was nominated to serve on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals. Miguel Estrada immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager speaking virtually no English. He graduated from Harvard Law School and Columbia College. He has argued 15 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He would be the first Hispanic judge on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Court.
Miguel Estrada as well as Henry W. Saad, Richard A. Griffin, William G. Myers III and David W. McKeague were nominated by the President had their nominations were filibustered by Tom Dascahle. For those wondering what a fillibuster is the web definition is as follows
A time-delaying tactic associated with the Senate and used by a minority in an effort to delay, modify or defeat a bill or amendment that probably would pass if voted on directly. The most common method is to take advantage of the Senate’s rules permitting unlimited debate.
Miguel Estrada finally withdraw his name from the consideration list after two years. Senators like Tom Daschle did not want him on the bench because he is conservative and pro life. Never mind that the American Bar Association unanimously awarded Estrada its highest possible rating. As long as he was pro life, Dascahle and his croonies were not going to allow him on the bench.
Not only am I glad that Tom Daschle is gone, he also made history in leaving. Daschle is the first Senate leader in 52 years to lose a re-election bid.
With Tom Daschle gone after 18 years of service in the Senate, it is definitely going to be a new day in the US Senate.
A Republicans Ten Point Plan for Democrats
I got this from a Brad who posted a comment at
washington monthly. I thought it was really cool.
A Republicans Ten Point Plan for Democrats
1. Stop making up conspiracy theories about Bush/Repubs.
2. Get out of bed with Hollywood. It hurts more than it helps.
3. Stop trying to go against the will of the people through the court system.
4. Don't undermine the President during the middle of a war.
5. Stop talking/thinking about people who don't agree with you as backward stupid hicks who don't know what's good for them.
6. Don't ever, ever, EVER say you're going to fight a more "sensitive" war on terrorism.
7. Actually do something to help minorities before you lose their vote too.
8. Stop hating.
9. Smile more.
10. Cheer up and realize your values a represented in the country: 1) Abortion is legal, 2) CA approved fetal stem cell research funding, and 3) Government spending is out of control.
